SOUND FROM SILENCE: SONGS OF RESILIENCE

Join the Choral Society of Northeast Pennsylvania for the opening of the 2026-2027 Season. Our fall concert is entitled “Sound From Silence: Songs of Resilience.” Centered around Jake Runestad’s “A Silence Haunts Me,” the composer describes the piece as “A dramatic setting of the famed Heiligenstadt Testament letter penned by Beethoven, “A Silence Haunts Me” invites the listener to empathize with the great composer as he agonizes over the impending loss of the asset he holds most dear: his hearing.” Paired with Beethoven’s “Elegischer Gesang, Op. 118,” the program features other works that explore silence and the music that is created from it. Other works include new pieces by some of our favorite composers, including Jacob Narverude, Elaine Hagenberg, Shawn Kirchner, and Pennsylvania’s own Rollo Dilworth. New composers to our repertoire include Florence Price and Ysaye M. Barnwell. The concert will include live sign language interpretation by Interpretek, inviting members of our deaf and hard-of-hearing communities to enjoy the concert as well.

Kick off your Holiday Season with a brand new concert offering from the Choral Society! Holiday Card to NEPA is just that – a musical holiday card to celebrate the season for audience members of all ages! We are excited to offer this new concert to our community, featuring some of your favorite carols in lush choral/orchestral arrangements such as John Rutter, Mack Wilberg, Eric Whitacre, Dan Forrest, and John Williams. We are excited to welcome special guests, Arcadia Chorale, who will join us with their signature sound and combine with us on the final set of numbers. Featuring live chamber orchestra plus a few more holiday surprises, this is a FREE concert event you will not want to miss. December 6th, 2026. 3:00 pm. The Choral Society closes out its 28th season with the exciting finale, Embers & Visions: Songs for Voices & Strings. Spotlighting some of the most famous works from the repertoire for this classic musical pairing, we welcome some of the area’s finest players to our professional string orchestra to join us for the concert. Featuring classics such as Vaughan Williams’ “Five Mystical Songs” and Corigliano’s “Fern Hill”, the Choral Society introduces two new works, including audience favorite Ola Gjeilo’s “Dreamweaver” and Jocelyn Hagen’s “Controlled Burn.” This thrilling season finale is not one you’ll want to miss – JOIN US!
